Sunday, November 4 concluded Bergenfield’s annual Food and Fright Festival and Food Crawl. The Food and Fright Festival began with a costume parade on Sunday, October 28 for families and children of all ages. The Halloween day event filled Washington Avenue with families enjoying the festivities that included Trunk or Treating, a live DJ and balloon artists.

Cars lined South Washington Avenue, opening their candy-filled, themed Halloween trunks for crowds of costumed children to come and “Trunk or Treat.” The Food and Fright Festival continued into the evening with a DJ playing spooky soundtracks and a balloon artists sculpting hats, swords and dogs for all the kids and even adults.

“Our Food and Fright Festival was such a huge success last year, we knew it was going to be hard to top this year but we definitely did,” said Mayor Schmelz. “The involvement and enjoyment from the community surpassed by my greatest expectations and it feels great to give Bergenfield a fun family event that they look forward to.”

The Food and Fright Festival also included a 10 day Food Crawl that had to be extended due to its high popularity the year prior. From Friday, October 26 to Sunday, November 4, patrons were offered a wide range of $5 deals from 25 different restaurants throughout Bergenfield. The Food Crawl focused around the “Food Crawl Passport,” which listed all the deals and participating eateries inside and each customer received a stamp with each $5 purchase. Participants of the Food Crawl then entered into a drawing for over $1000 in prizes and the grand prize of a $500 Visa gift card New Jersey Eye Center. A total of 22 winners were drawn including, Erica Daese, winner of the $500 grand prize gift card.

“The Food Crawl was a huge success with people coming from all over to try new restaurants and new food items for the great deal of $5,” said Stuart Koperweis, the Executive Director of the Bergenfield District Alliance. “This event brought thousands to our downtown business area and they will continue to return now that they know what great food and fun Bergenfield has to offer.”
