Bergenfield Welcomes Abrecea Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Martial Arts & Fitness Academy
BERGENFIELD, NJ: On June 3, Ryan and Raymond Abrecea held the grand opening of Abrecea Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu Martial Arts & Fitness Academy. Their martial arts studio is located on South Washington Avenue and is
currently offering enrollment of all ages for multiple classes. The ribbon cutting was attended by Bergenfield
Mayor, Norman Schmelz, as well as local members of the community and numerous family and friends.
“We really appreciate everyone who came out to show their support and the presence of Mayor Schmelz and
his help in spreading the word all over the community about our program,” said Ryan and Raymond. “We look
forward to giving back and serving the city of Bergenfield, changing lives and making a difference via way of
martial arts & fitness.”
The Abrecea brothers chose Bergenfield to open their martial arts studio due to its diverse demographic and
large Filipino population. Having been raised in the Philippines, the brothers believe Bergenfield feels like
being back home. They hope to offer members of the community additional options in life and believe that the
support of Bergenfield’s community will be the key to their success.
“It is always great to see a new business open up in town, especially when you have two young, vibrant minds
that really want to help and be a part of the community,” said Mayor Schmelz. “I welcome them to the
community and I hope they are very successful and that they spend many years in Bergenfield.”
The ribbon cutting opened with Mayor Schmelz being given the opportunity to wear a traditional Gi and belt
while posing with owners Ryan and Raymond Abrecea. The mayor then continued to introduce the new
business and expressed his excitement for what the facility will bring to the community. The brothers
proceeded to thank their family and friends for their support as well as their mentors and trainers for their years
of guidance and instruction. Along with the mayor, the Abrecea brothers officially cut the ribbon and welcomed
guests to their studio. The event concluded with the brothers and fellow team members demonstrating martial
arts techniques for the mayor, spectators and children who came to learn about classes.
Abrecea Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Martial Arts & Fitness Academy will offer classes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay
Thai boxing for adults and kids, dynamic core kickboxing for specifically for women and Western Boxing.
